Tru-Control (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with your use of the Tru-Control mobile application (the “App”).
This Privacy Policy applies to all connectivity methods supported by the App, including MQTT and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
2. Data Collection and Usage
2.1 Information We DO NOT Collect
The Tru-Control App is designed with privacy as a priority. We DO NOT:
Collect any personal information
Track your location
Access your contacts, photos, or other personal data
Use analytics or tracking services
Store any information on our servers
2.2 Information Processed Locally
The App processes the following data only on your device:
MQTT connection settings (host, port, credentials)
BLE (Bluetooth) connection data and device identifiers
Temperature and system status data from your Truma heating system
User preferences and settings
Error codes and system status information
List of discovered/paired Bluetooth devices
Connection history and favorites
This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us or any third parties.
3. Connection Data
3.1 MQTT Connection Data
When you configure the App to connect to your MQTT broker:
Connection details (hostname, port, username, password) are stored locally on your device
These credentials are used only to establish connection with your specified MQTT broker
We have no access to your MQTT broker or any data transmitted through it
It is your responsibility to secure your MQTT broker according to best practices
3.2 Bluetooth (BLE) Connection Data
When you use the Bluetooth connectivity feature:
Device scanning: The App scans for nearby Bluetooth Low Energy devices
Device identifiers: Bluetooth MAC addresses, device names, and service UUIDs are processed locally
Pairing information: Connection data and pairing keys are stored locally on your device
No personal data access: The App only communicates with Truma™ heating systems and does not access other personal Bluetooth devices
Local processing: All Bluetooth communication occurs directly between your iOS device and your Truma™ system
All Bluetooth data:
Is processed locally on your iOS device
Is not transmitted to external servers
Is encrypted using iOS security features and Bluetooth LE encryption
Is deleted when you uninstall the App
4. Permissions
4.1 Bluetooth Access
Required to discover and connect to your Truma™ heating system via Bluetooth
Used only for establishing direct communication with your heating system
No other Bluetooth devices are accessed, scanned, or monitored
The App does not access Bluetooth audio profiles or file transfer capabilities
4.2 Network Access
Required to connect to your MQTT broker (if using MQTT connectivity)
Used only for establishing the MQTT connection you configure
No other network access is used
4.3 Background Operation
Required to maintain MQTT/Bluetooth connections in background
Allows continuous monitoring of your heating system
No data is transmitted to external services during background operation
5. Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your iOS device:
Using iOS secure storage mechanisms (Keychain for credentials)
Data is encrypted by iOS security features
Bluetooth pairing information is stored in iOS secure enclave
Data is automatically deleted when you uninstall the App
6. Third-Party Services
The App does NOT use:
Analytics services (Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
Advertising networks
Crash reporting services
Any third-party tracking or data collection services
Third-party Bluetooth frameworks or libraries that collect data
7. Bluetooth-Specific Information
The App uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to:
Discover nearby Truma™ heating systems
Establish direct, encrypted connections using BLE security features
Transmit control commands and receive status updates
Maintain connections for real-time monitoring
Important notes about Bluetooth:
Encryption: All BLE communications use industry-standard AES-CCM encryption
Limited scope: The App only communicates with verified Truma™ systems
No personal data sharing: No audio, file transfer, or personal data sharing occurs via Bluetooth
Connection range: Limited to typical BLE range (up to approximately 30 meters in open space)
Power efficiency: Uses Bluetooth LE for minimal battery impact
8. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
Updating the “Last Updated” date
Providing in-app notification for significant changes (when applicable)
10. Your Rights
Since we do not collect any personal data, traditional data subject rights (access, rectification, deletion) do not apply. You have full control over:
All data stored on your device
MQTT connection settings
Bluetooth pairing information
App preferences and favorites
To delete all App data, simply uninstall the App from your device. For Bluetooth-specific data, you can also:
Remove the device from iOS Bluetooth settings
Factory reset your Truma™ system’s Bluetooth pairing
11. Security
We implement appropriate technical measures to ensure data processed by the App remains on your device. However, please be aware that:
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure
You are responsible for securing your MQTT broker (if used)
Bluetooth communications use industry-standard BLE encryption
You should use appropriate security measures for both MQTT and Bluetooth connections
Keep your iOS device updated with the latest security patches
