Privacy Policy

RV-BMS — MF-Lab  ·  Effective date: September 30, 2026

In short:

1. Who we are

RV-BMS is developed by MF-Lab. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the RV-BMS app on iPhone and iPad, including its Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, its Live Activity, its CarPlay interface, and its Apple Watch app and complications.

2. Bluetooth

RV-BMS uses Bluetooth Low Energy (Apple's Core Bluetooth framework) to find supported lithium batteries nearby and to read data from their battery management system (BMS): voltage, current, power, state of charge, state of health, remaining capacity, cycle count, cell voltages, temperatures, and protection status. iOS asks for your permission the first time the app uses Bluetooth; you can change it at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Bluetooth.

The app connects only to the battery you select. It keeps that connection, and keeps reading data, while the app is in the background, so that the Live Activity, widgets, and history stay up to date. This happens entirely between your iPhone and your battery. No battery data is transmitted over the internet.

To reconnect to your battery automatically, the app remembers its Bluetooth name and the identifier iOS assigned to it on your device. This identifier is generated by iOS, is different on every iPhone, and is not the battery's hardware address.

3. Data stored on your device

RV-BMS stores the following, only in the app's local storage on your device:

This data is not synced to iCloud and is not included in any server-side service operated by MF-Lab, because there is none. It may be included in your device's own iCloud or computer backup, as with any app data, under Apple's terms.

4. Live Activity and widgets

The Live Activity (on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island) and the widgets are updated by the app itself, on your device. RV-BMS does not use push notifications or remote updates for them, so no push token is created and no server is involved.

5. Export

You can export a battery's history as a CSV file. The file is created only when you ask for it, and you choose where it goes (Files, AirDrop, Mail, and so on) through the standard iOS share sheet. Once exported, the file is under your control, not ours.

6. Demo mode

Demo mode shows a simulated battery with generated data. It does not use Bluetooth and does not involve any personal data.

7. Apple Watch and CarPlay

If you use the Apple Watch app, the iPhone sends the latest battery reading to your paired Apple Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework, directly between your own devices. The Watch keeps only the latest reading, locally, for its app and complications. CarPlay shows the same data on your car's screen through the iPhone; the optional voice readouts are generated on the iPhone with Apple's speech synthesis. Nothing is sent to MF-Lab.

8. Purchases

RV-BMS Pro is an optional one-time purchase offered through Apple's In-App Purchase system (StoreKit). All payment processing, billing information, and transaction handling is managed directly by Apple under Apple's own privacy and payment terms. MF-Lab never sees or stores your payment details. The app only receives confirmation from Apple that the purchase is active, which it uses to unlock the Pro features on your device. Refunds are requested from and handled by Apple.

9. Analytics, advertising, and tracking

RV-BMS does not include any analytics SDK, advertising network, or third-party tracking library. We do not track your activity across other companies' apps or websites, and the app does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA). No usage statistics, crash reports, or behavioral data are collected by us.

10. Data shared with third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. Apart from Apple's App Store for the optional purchase (see Section 8), the app does not communicate with any third-party service. Links in the app's About page (support page, open-source credits) open in your web browser and are then governed by the privacy policy of the website you visit.

RV-BMS is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, and does not send data to, the manufacturers of the batteries or BMS it supports.

11. Data retention and your control over it

12. Children's privacy

RV-BMS is a technical tool for monitoring batteries and is not directed at children. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, or delete it. Because RV-BMS does not collect personal data and keeps everything on your device, you can exercise these rights directly: view and export your history in the app, delete it from the History screen, or uninstall the app.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new app features. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
